Political Educational Cartoons
Criticisms of the American education system are not going unspoken. Political cartoons are a way of voicing an opinion to large masses of people with varying political stances, levels of intelligence, and literacy. These are just a few examples of the many comics that have circulated, illustrating holes and problems with the traditional education system. Something to notice is the extent of the problems within schools. Not only are students frustrated and intellectually limited, but teachers, principals, and administrators are all stunted by obvious loopholes in the system they are expected to uphold and live within.
Being able to jump through hoops is all students nowadays understand how to do. Once an assignment is given kids will immediately ask all the basic questions:
· How many points is this worth?
· What is this graded on?
· When is it due?
· What grade percentage is this worth?
· Can we work with partners?
· When will I ever use this?
These questions are just supporting students hoop jumping habits, but how is this helping them stand apart from others in school and the work force? It's not. We are encouraging our children to mindlessly follow all those who have went before them. Looking back into history Rosa Parks, Martin Luther, Thomas Edison, etc. if these great people would have just 'jumped through hoops' we would still be in the same place as we started. We need to give our children their creativity back to help promote inspiration and advancement in our world. When we are all in retirement we are going to have to put our faith into our children to keep this country afloat.
